It's been a while since my last post. Work and lack of time to go shooting has caught up with me. I'll be posting some older shots until I get a chance to shoot this weekend. I'm hoping to get my 50mm f1.8 prime lens by Friday for my new shots.

This series of images were taken at a show on last Friday night in Chaguanas. It's my first try at performance photography. I've learned a couple things. I need to get better lens. Maybe a 50mm prime lens with lower f numbers would work. The lighting in these shots were pretty bad so I don't think better lens would have been of much more help in this situation. There was no proper stage lighting that you would normally find at these shows. Actually there wasn't even a proper stage. It was a really small show so I expected that. I did get a couple okay shots when some of the lights were on but once all the lights were off and only the coloured lights were being used it was horrible. All in all, I had a good time and I learned a bit about about perfomance photography. I tried to capture the emotion of the performances but the lighting made this near impossible.

This one is going to be the last from the Dattatreya Mandir set for a while. A close-up shot of this statue can be found here.

This one was also taken at the Dattatreya Mandir. This is is a design of a lotus surrounded be six peacocks done directly on the pathway behind the mandir.

This is a Snowy Egret I believe. It's difficult to differentiate from the Little Egret but it had yellow lore patches so I assume it's the Snowy Egret. This was shot at Waterloo. You can see another shot from a different time here.

This is another one from the Dattatreya Mandir. There are two elephant statues at one of the entrances. This one is located on the side of the public carpark.

I visited the Dattatreya Mandir this morning. This is my first visit after many failed attempts. This is a 26 meter tall statue of the god Hanuman.

This was a nice couple (the husband had turned the corner) who were going home after a morning in the fields. I had woke up from my bed about an hour an a half before this. I felt like a bit of a slacker at this point.

This is not your typical shot of the famous Maracas Beach. There are no blue skies, blue waters or white sandy beach that you see in many tourist brouchers. This was taken about a year ago when there were rough waves that destroyed many food stalls along the beach among other things. I haven't been back there since to get a follow up shot. Hopefully in the near future I'll get a chance to revisit the scene and get a contrasting shot.

You can find news articles about the event here and  here.

This is a plant called Ruku. I'm not sure of the spelling though. All that I know about it is that it is used as a dye. This is my attempt at using DOF to highlight the subject. I like the bokeh in it but it can definitely be improved. The white regions are slightly distracting. A shot from a higher angle would have given a uniform green background.

[update]

Someone informed me that the correct spelling is Roucou. It is also known as Achiote.

This was taken near a sand quarry at Ravine Sable.

There were a couple old silos along this road. This one actually had a tree growing inside of it. The silos were used to dry tobacco. There are still a lot of farmers along this road and a couple sand quarries.

This is another one taken at the Temple-In-The-Sea at Waterloo. The area is very beautiful at sunset with the colours and mood changing very quickly.
